Chandra Shekara
Artist

I have always felt a need to give voice to that which can not be verbally expressed. I've experienced this working with clients as a psychotherapist in San Francisco. Within psychotherapy, there is an uncovering of an experience.... an unfolding truth. I experience this as well as being an artist in New York City through my work in portraiture, landscape, collage, painting, print, and more.

Time (in progess) : What is time? Is it real or illusory? Is it all in the mind or a fixed measurable thing? Is it all but a dream? Is it all a series of moments leading up to a reality without time? There are many philosophies that interpret the concept of time/space within reality in various and opposing ways. How do I reconcile these competing notions? The Buddha Escapade. : Statement: I am a spiritual atheist. The strongest spiritual philosophy that has influenced me throughout most of my life is Buddhism. The Buddha in this series is a gift given to me years ago from one of my oldest friends as a part of a Zen Garden. I have chosen to utilize it here artistically to express the joy of being free in the present-- which is an integral aspect of Buddhism that I appropriate. This appropriation has enriched my life immensely. This is why I share this project with you (so that if you don't already)-- choose to be immersed in the joy and freedom of the present.
